It’s the beginning of a New Year, and resolutions are fresh in our minds. If, like many other people, you made a resolution to learn something new….we may be able to help you out. January is conveniently Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. It is a great time to find deals on ski lessons and hit the slopes! However, if you have never been skiing, or haven't been for a while, it can be a bit intimidating. To help you out, we have compiled a list of 10 tips for new/beginner skiers..

1. Get on YouTube! Watch some ski videos, both instructional and inspirational. It will get you stoked to get out on the mountain and it will help you to know what to expect.

2. Find a friend to join you. Everything is more fun when you have a buddy around. Get a friend that is as excited about learning to ski as you are and learn together.

3. Take a class. It doesn't matter how old you are, whether you are 10 or 50, make sure to take a lesson or two so you can understand the basic techniques of skiing. Especially during the month of January, there will be plenty of deals on lessons at your local ski resorts.

4. Wear the right ski attire. No, jeans are not proper ski attire. It's cold up there! Invest in some waterproof outerwear that will keep you warm on the slopes. Nothing is worse on your first day of skiing than being freezing because you did not dress for the weather. VIEW SKI CLOTHING.

5. Find a good place to RENT. You don’t want to jump into buying a pair of skis if you are new to the sport. It is best to rent until you are more comfortable and have a feel for the type of ski you would like to purchase. VIEW DEMO SKIS.

6. Wear a helmet! Maybe you aren’t planning on doing anything crazy on the slopes, but accidents happen. Better to be safe than sorry. If you don’t have a helmet, you can always rent one from a local ski shop. SHOP SKI HELMETS.

7. Be aware of your surroundings. There are a lot of skiers and boarders on the mountain that bomb down the slopes (a lot of times without watching out for other riders). Always look around to make sure you aren’t cutting anyone off.

8. Start slow. Don't try to race down a black diamond on your first day. Start on an easy run and work your way up to more difficult terrain.

9. Don’t be afraid to fall! Even the pros do it. If you fall, don’t be embarrassed. Just laugh it off, get back up, and get going again.

10. Have fun and keep at it! At the end of the day it's all about having fun. Don't take yourself seriously and just have a good time.
