GNU Free Spirit Snowboard 2024 review

The Lowdown

The 2024 GNU Free Spirit is a part of Jamie Anderson's collection of snowboards, and it surely doesn't disappoint. Noted as a "floaty pow board with a freestyle spirit", the Free Spirit is meant to shred everything from resort to backcountry. At home in deep powder, surf through terrain easily with its more aggressive camber with mild rocker and a stiffer flex. Carve up groomers with the Magne-Traction technology for an "unreal edge hold". With reviews noting it's float and playfulness, this board is one to look out for this season.

The Review - 5/5

This is such a killer board - it ripped, carved, floated, and ate at crud. I was really impressed by how my riding flowed and the confidence I felt while on it. It was so much fun! There was a sense of playfulness and pop. It can definitely perform on all mountain terrain, however I would really like to test this board in a freeride/powder setting.

With the more aggressive cambers underfoot and mild rocker in the center, I was able to tell the difference in terms of how it popped. In the little bit of powder I was able to test it on, this board was easy to keep afloat.

I personally really like the Magne-Traction edges. As a rider who isn't extremely strong, sometimes it's harder for me to really hold an edge. The Magne-Traction gives me that extra umph and power when carving.

Overall, I think this is a super fun, playful, pop-y, and shred-y board!

Who Is It For?

The GNU Free Spirit women's snowboard is meant for the rider who enjoys exploring the resort and backcountry. With it's lofty nose and setback stance, it's made to surf in powder. Featuring a more aggressive camber profile, and stiffer flex, this board is made for more advanced riders, or for the rider looking to advance in their skillset. This board is for the playful, exploratory rider that enjoys varied aggressive terrain.
